Peter Pan + Pixie Dust | Charlotte Children’s Photographer

I’m sharing a personal session I did with A last week.  It’s not exactly what I had envisioned going into it but I LOVE the outcome.  I’ve always wanted to try one of those beautiful girly glitter blowing images but being that I only have boys it seemed like it wasn’t in the cards for me.  So after much thought, and influence from my 3 year old muse, it hit me.  One of his favorite things to do right now is play dress up.  He loves all things super heroes and pirates.  He also really loves Peter Pan at the moment.  So I thought why not do something with Peter Pan and pixie dust.  I think it’s really important for photos to capture something personal about your subject, so I love incorporating the things he’s into at the moment into the photos I take of him.  So after many many many attempts with the “pixie dust” these magical shots happened…

Giggles and Bow Ties | Charlotte Family Photographer

Can we talk about how much I love my clients!?!  They are always so trusting with my ideas for a shoot.  One of my favorite parts of a client session is the preparation; location scouting and styling.  Figuring out what’s going to make their session unique and special to them.  Enter the W Family, Mom did an amazing job with outfits for this shoot and the location was a special place for their family.  It all came together to produce this beautiful session.  Can you believe all these adorable little boys I’ve gotten to work with lately?  We had a cloudy sky but the rain held off just long enough.  Thank you W Family for letting me capture these memories!

Muddy Puddle Hugs | Charlotte Family Photographer

I can take shooting a session in the rain off my photography bucket list now!  I love it when families are flexible with including the elements in their session.  Case in point, the B Family’s shoot coincided with a rain storm that we were hoping to clear up before the start of our session.  We almost cancelled but decided to go ahead with it and I am so glad we did because I LOVE the photos we got.  As you can see we started off with a drizzle and ended with just embracing the storm.  My favorite shots usually happen towards the end of the shoot when the kids get to run and play.  The end of this session did not disappoint.  I love moments like muddy puddle hugs from two adorable boys!  Thank you B Family for letting me capture these special moments for you.

Beach Carnival Couples Shoot | Charlotte Family Photographer

It’s been an eventful few months since my last blog post.  I have been trying to adjust to having two kiddos and it’s not an easy transition. So needless to say I’ve been absent from my photography for a while now.

After this awesome shoot a couple of weeks ago I couldn’t wait any longer to share these images.  I asked these guys to give me some creative freedom with our shoot and I’m so glad they agreed because it was so much fun.  I LOVE how every one of these turned out.  These two sisters and their guys are so sweet and what gorgeous couples they make.  This was initially suppose to be just carnival images but we ended up at the beach and boy am I glad we did.  It was perfect timing. We started out at the carnival, took a quick detour to the beach and ended back at the carnival for some interesting silhouettes.  I don’t shoot a lot of couple sessions so it’s always a nice change of pace when I get to do something like this.  Enjoy!

A Day in My Life | February Edition

I know I’ve been a little quiet on the blog the last few months. Ok…completely MIA. I admit it! My family has some big changes coming in April and I’ve been taking it kind of easy with client work. We’re expecting our second baby boy April 22nd and we’re finally in the home stretch. I have still been shooting my little guy when I’ve felt up to it. Boy is it rough being preggo and chasing around a 2 year old (oops, 3 year old as of yesterday!). So I knew when a few other talented ladies I know were doing a day in the life challenge I wanted to join in. I needed the push to get out my camera. I have only done this once before as a creativity challenge,  it’s a great way to play with different lighting situations and to look for the details around you. (If you’re interested in seeing the results of that day click here to see my featured images on the Clickin Moms blog.)

The weather has been so crazy here on the East Coast this year. We never know if it’s going to be a snow boots or a flip flop kind of day. Luckily, this past weekend was beautiful here in Charlotte, 74 degrees! Not only was it amazing outside but my hubby was actually home to enjoy it with us. We had a pretty eventful day on Sunday, not our typical day but it was so great to enjoy time with my boys. It was a perfect day to take my camera everywhere with me. I got completely carried away (as usual) and couldn’t decide which of the 300 pictures to share. Hopefully I will be able to take on this challenge again in the future. Be sure to check out the very talented Katie Woodard Photography’s blog post here, to see a peek into a day in the life with her family.

Without further ado, here is a little peek into our life.
